With the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic games coming up, we know our city is about to get– well, a little crazy, to say the least. Some estimates have said numbers of tourists could reach up to the tens of millions, in a city already full of people eating, drinking, and taking public transport. At a time like this, it’s important that you have a safe, quiet oasis to head home to at the end of the day.

At MetroResidences, we firmly believe that a good home base makes all the difference. Even more importantly, we know that in times like this, it’s location, location, location! With the number of people roaming the streets, it’s vital to be close to the action wherever you want to stay in Tokyo. The safety of you and your family or friends is paramount, and believe me– we’ve thought of this too. That’s why we curated this list, so you know you’re getting the best accommodations for Tokyo 2020.

Serviced apartments

Before we show you locations, it’s important to know the difference between a regular and serviced apartment. Serviced apartments are apartments that are move-in ready, for any length of time. These are not quite vacation rentals– they were originally meant for those coming in for work, so they often require at least a booking time of at least one month or longer. Serviced apartments are also unlike Airbnbs because they’re always the entire apartment.

Generally, they are serviced by housekeepers at least once a week, though that can vary depending on the property. Vacation rentals for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 will be few and far between, so increasing your search to serviced apartments may prove fruitful. Here are some locations with serviced apartments we love.

Despite the location, Shinjuku Gyoen is set back just enough to be peaceful– it’s amazing how quiet the city can become. Baseball Stadium & International Stadium Yokohama

Yokohama is not exactly in Tokyo but is just as much a part of the Olympic fervor as those within the city limits. Those looking to catch the team sports will find both baseball and football games a quick jaunt from their front door, and ideal for those looking to be a little ways away from the Tokyo heat.

Yokohama Area

This is an excellent location so close to the waterfront that you can smell the sea. Foodies will celebrate the proximity to Chinatown, a beloved spot for both cheap eats and fine dining. All appliances in this apartment are brand new and boast beautiful Yamashita park right below. Take a stroll through the park, have a quick soup dumpling, and head on over to the Olympic venue for a near perfect day regardless of a team win.

Because it is Olympic Season, we unfortunately, have to apply a peak season fee if you’re checking out anytime from July 15th to August 31st. This fee consists of an additional one-month’s rental fee on top of the initial one month, charged in full at the beginning of booking. This is not a deposit and will not be refunded. Even if you stay more than one month (with some properties available up to two years), you will only be charged the peak season fee once.
